MUSKY

Muskellunge (Esox masquinongy)

Sean Spoerl & his 38 inch Musky

Wisconsin has produced more record-sized muskys than any other state and owns the world record of 69 lbs 11 oz. It is the most highly regarded trophy fish in the state. It has the body style like the northern but has vertical stripes on its sides against a light colored background. When eggs of a female musky are fertilized by a northern pike a hybrid is developed called a tiger musky. The in line large spinners called bucktails are the favorite lure with suckers used on live bait rigs close behind. Muskys are also caught on large crank baits and top water lures. The musky is famous for their frustrating follow-ups to the boat behind the lure but not taking it.
