Two Pike inhabit the waters of Wisconsin, the northern pike and the grass pike. The northern pike is the most sought after of the two, and with the Wisconsin record of 38 lbs its no wonder. Bass fisherman tend to catch a lot of pike because the pike will attack nearly every bass bait. Pike are fished for threw the ice with tip-ups, and minnows are the favorite bait. Some good lures are spinner baits, spoons, crank baits, and even top water lures seem to catch these fish. They can be distinguished by their dark body with light horizontal bars.

The grass pike resembles the northern but are thinner and smaller in size reaching only 10 to 14 inches. You can tell them from northerns usually only by the scale patterns on their cheek and gill. They are fully scaled while the northerns have a fully scaled cheek but only a half scaled gill. They are most common in southeastern Wisconsin but exist throughout the state.
